I had never seen Smashing Pumpkins until now. Sure, I was able to see Billy Corgan solo last year and while he always seems like the driving force of the band, the band (almost) all back together is truly a sight to behold. Sure, Billy came out and did the first few songs by himself, but it almost felt like a plea to get them over with so they could then rock out together.

For three hours. No joke.

After photographing three songs from the soundboard, I was able to take a seat on the side of the stage and really watch them go. The three original members (Corgan, guitarist James Iha and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin), along with guitarist Jeff Schroeder, bassist Jack Bates, and keyboardist Katie Cole put on a serious show that showcased each of their talents at times, as well as their combined rock power. Bonus! They looked like they were having fun doing it.

Smashing Pumpkins have a new album, Shiny and Oh So Bright, that comes out on November 16th – and they finish up the U.S. tour…
